10 Chickenpox Cases at Local School

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — Lane County Public Health issued a warning about a chickenpox outbreak at a middle school in Cottage Grove Friday.

So far, 10 cases have been confirmed at Lincoln Middle School. Lane County Public Health says that’s concerning in a school of just 580 students.

School maintenance staff is taking extra precautions and carefully disinfecting the school.

Chickenpox is extremely contagious and can be very serious, especially in babies, adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

Health officials say chickenpox is preventable with the proper vaccine.

    Now the chicken pox virus has spread to the elementary schools with at least 3 of the local elementary schools sending home letters reporting outbreaks at the schools.
