EUGENE, Ore. — Do you have the most stolen car in Oregon? The National Insurance Crime Bureau just released its Hot Wheels Report.
The list reveals that early ’90s cars get hit the most, and the ’92 Honda Accord is the number one stolen vehicle, again.
Eugene police say certain models of older cars and trucks are popular with car theives because of the value of their parts. They’re also easier to steal.
“The other thing that people don’t always think about is what they leave inside the vehicle. We’ve actually had many cases where they stole the car just to get what was inside,” said Sgt. Lisa Barrong of the Eugene Police Department.
Here is the top 10 list of Oregon’s most stolen vehicles, according to NICB’s 2011 statistics:
1. 1992 Honda Accord
2. 1998 Honda Civic
3. 1989 Toyota Camry
4. 1997 Ford Pick-Up (Full Size)
5. 1998 Subaru Legacy
6. 1995 Chevrolet Pickup (Full Size)
7. 1994 Acura Integra
8. 1997 Toyota Corolla
9. 2001 Dodge Pick-Up (Full Size)
10. 1992 Nissan Sentra
EPD says protect yourself by being more aware of where you park. You should also use a locking device like a club. EPD offers them at a discounted price and says it’s never had any cars with clubs reported stolen.
