EUGENE, Ore. — Just over 1,000 pounds of unwanted medication was collected at a drug take-back event on Saturday. Cars lined up at the Pain Society of Oregon in Eugene as volunteers collected all the unwanted and expired prescriptions.
Doctors said prescription medication when used appropriately are fine, but they often times end up in the wrong hands.
“The wrong hands could be friends of friends, or friends of family come by and borrow some pills or take pills, which is where 90% of the opioid and controlled medications that are on the street illegally come from,” said Dr. Joshua Haber, president of the Pain Society of Oregon.
The medicine collected was boxed up and transported to the Eugene Police Department where it will all be destroyed.
