EUGENE, Ore. — Thursday night, more than 150 volunteers turned out to help about 65,000 ducks get ready for the 2009 Great Rotary Duck Race Presented by First Tech Credit Union. They emptied the ducks out of bins, stickered them with a number for Saturday’s race and tossed them into a dumpster donated by Sanipac. That dumpster will be dumped into the Willamette River on Saturday.
The race officially starts at 12:00 p.m., but there’s plenty to do leading up to it. Local Rotary clubs are offering a free pancake breakfast, entertainment and childrens’ activities beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Alton Baker Park.
