EUGENE, Ore. — Parents in the 4J school district are figuring out what schools to send their kids to next year. Saturday morning the district held a school choice event where parents could meet with representatives from all of the schools in the district.
The district said each neighborhood has a school, but kids are not required to attend that particular one. Instead parents can enter a lottery to send their kids to a different school within the district.
“Some families want to go to an alternative school that offers a different approach is language immersion. We have a number of language immersion schools in our district. Three of them are alternative schools, one of them is a neighborhood school,” said Kerry Delf, 4J district spokesperson.
Starting next week parents will be able to tour the schools they’re considering. Applications for changing schools within the district need to be turned in by February 28th at 5:00 p.m.
