EUGENE, Ore. — Ken Kesey was a true original.
He wrote two best-selling books before the age of 30.
He was an artist, a poet and a loyal Duck fan.
And Oregon claims him as its own, which is why on this day in 2001, when Kesey passed away, it seemed the whole state took a sharp breath and sighed.
