EUGENE, Ore. — Everyone agrees that Eugene’s Hult Center for the performing arts is one of the city’s crown jewels.
It even looks that way when the nights grow dark and the building seems to glow from within.
From the first, the Hult Center wasn’t a sure thing.
Bond levies to fund it were twice defeated, but key arts supporters wouldn’t be defeated.
A third bond election succeeded in 1978.
The Hult opened to great fanfare on Sept. 24, 1982.
Though it was hailed as Eugene’s finest hour, there were other arts stories that made headlines that year.
