Willamalane Park and Recreation District and Springfield Public Schools are celebrating the grand opening of Quartz Park on Tuesday evening.
The 3 1/2 acre park is located east of Bob Straub Parkway and south of Quartz Avenue. It’s managed by Willamalane and located on Springfield Public Schools property.
It includes a basketball court, play areas for older and younger children, a sandbox and a buried dinosaur fossil and play field, park officials said.
The park cost $1.3 million to construct. Willamalane says it used $500,000 in bond measure funds that were approved by voters in November 2012 for parks projects. The rest was paid for with funds secured by the school district as part of the federal economic stimulus package.
The grand opening celebration is Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Quartz Park.
