The snails arrived from Nigeria, bound for San Dimas, California.
Accompanying paperwork indicated they were for human consumption.
However, a team of entomologists identified them as Giant African Snails, an extremely invasive species.
They’re one of the world’s largest land snails, and they’ll eat anything from fruits and vegetables, to paint and stucco off houses.
They’ve also been known to carry parasites harmful to people.
The snails have been transferred to a USDA station for processing.
