Thursday Night Weather Discussion from Chief Meteorologist Justin Stapleton
Nice to see some cooler air moving in just in time for the holiday weekend forecast. The hot high pressure ridge has been flattening out allowing cooler Pacific air to move across Western Oregon. And boy, did we feel it on Thursday as highs were close to 10 degrees cooler in the low 80s than yesterday’s low 90s.
Friday is shaping up to be a great day with morning clouds returning and a start in the upper 40s and low 50s, followed by sunny skies and upper 70s in the afternoon. This will likely be the coolest day of the week by far. By Saturday and certainly Sunday, high pressure will be back, just not as intense as earlier this week. Both weekend days will see highs back into the low to mid 80s and plenty of sunshine.
Early next week is when the “mini” heatwave returns. Highs climb back into the upper 80s and even low 90s by Tuesday. Good news is the ridge building back in will back off midweek and by Thursday, similar to today, another weak trough of low pressure moves through the Northwest, bringing a new shot of cooler air.
Have a great Friday!
