Accused Cat Abuser Makes Deal

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Springfield Animal Control says a woman accused of throwing two cats into the Willamette River has agreed to turn over the remaining cats still in her care.

Betty Gould, a Persian cat breeder, is charged with animal abuse.

Starting later this week, animal control will start slowly rescuing the 50 to 60 cats still in Gould’s care. Many of them are sick, so officers will work with local rescues to have them treated and fixed as quickly as possible. They hope to have all of them out of Gould’s home before her January court date. All of the cats will eventually be up for adoption.

We talked to Gould by phone, but she did not want to comment.
