Adair Village Passes Moratorium

Adair Village City HallADAIR VILLAGE, Ore. — In a unanimous 5-0 vote, the Adair Village City Council voted Tuesday night to ban medical marijuana dispensaries in town for the next year.

Under Senate Bill 1531, the state will allow approved medical marijuana dispensaries, but local governments are allowed to impose a moratorium to ban them up until May 1, 2015.

The Adair Village City Council has been discussing the idea, and on Tuesday, decided to pass the moratorium.

Drew Foster, the City Administrator, says the city is unsure about future marijuana laws, and the moratorium allows city leaders to temporarily decide what they want.

“It simply gives us more flexibility going into the future when we take a look and see what changes might come out of the legislature next term,” Foster said. “Nobody really knows where it is going to go or what’s going to happen. And it seems as though passing a moratorium right now simply gives the city more flexibility in the future when more decisions are made.”
