NEAR KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The Algoma Fire is now 70% contained as of Sunday morning, according to the South Central Oregon Incident Management Team.
There are no road closures as of Sunday, but Oregon Department of Transportation is directing traffic to slow down between milepost 265 to 267 on Highway 97. ODOT is citing heavy fire traffic from suppression efforts in the area. Drivers in the area are asked to be aware of falling rocks and debris from fire activity.
The fire is located six miles north of Klamath Falls and is visible from Highway 97. The South Central Oregon Incident Management Team says the fire is burning on private land in grass, sage and juniper.
Fire officials are encouraging landowners to be mindful of the extreme dry conditions and that equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, and UTV’s can cause sparks and start new fires.
