Alleged Springfield Murderer Arraigned

EUGENE, Ore. — A Springfield man, accused of killing his girlfriend, appeared in court Monday.

Police say 32-year-old Robert Cromwell’s girlfriend, 26-year-old Casey Wright, died from blunt force trauma to the head, most likely from a baseball bat. Authorities say they recovered a bat from the scene of the crime.

The Springfield Police Department says Cromwell walked into McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center on Saturday, with injuries. While being treated, they say he made a statement to emergency room staff that he had killed his girlfriend. He was arraigned Monday afternoon on murder charges.

“The next step in the process would be convening a grand jury. That will happen over the next seven days, in which evidence is presented to a grand jury, and they will determine if the charges are indicated and, if so, what those charges are,” said Erik Hasselman, Assistant District Attorney.

Cromwell will be back in court Nov. 12 for a preliminary hearing.
