CRESWELL, Ore. — An armed man is on the loose after robbing a Creswell bank at gunpoint Friday morning.
The robbery happened a little after 10 a.m. at the Siuslaw Bank in Creswell, and bank employees and community members say they are pretty shaken up.
Zachary Nailon was on his way to Suislaw Bank to make his morning drop off from Figaro’s Pizza, but as he crossed through the back parking lot, he saw one of the tellers in the window.
“He started signaling me stop, ‘stop’. I looked at him and said ‘What’s going on?’ Then he signaled me the handgun sign and mouthed the words robbery, robbery,” Nailon said.
Nailon says he got to a phone as quick as he could and called 911. He had no idea at the time that a man was inside the bank with a gun in each hand and other firearms in his jacket.
“He went in there, a lot of verbal orders to the bank employees and the people within the bank to get down on the ground, and he essentially took control of the area,” said Sgt. Carrie Carver with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
The man rode his bicycle away from the bank, eventually ditched it and ran.
Investigators aren’t releasing how much the man got away with, but Eugene police say it is very likely this suspect is linked to other robberies they’re investigating in Eugene, Newberg and in Clackamas County. And right now he’s still at large.
“We were fortunate enough to have three agencies respond, which is fantastic, but that’s concerning for any community to now have anyone at large right now,” Carver said.
Nailon says it makes him nervous to know this guy is still out there. He and his neighbors will be keeping a closer eye on things.
“I do think the entire town will be a little bit more on-guard,” Nailon said.
No one was hurt and the bank is back open.
