Art Exhibit Focuses on Death Penalty

EUGENE, Ore. — A new art exhibit takes a close look at the death penalty by examining the last meals of death row inmates.

It’s called “The Last Supper,” and it’s a collection of paintings done on ceramic plates. Each picture shows an inmate’s last meal before execution.

The show’s organizers hope the display will make people think about the death penalty in a more personal way.

“My favorite is birthday cake where prison guards actually presented the inmate with a birthday cake ’cause he had never had one during his life, so it shows a little bit into the minds of these souls,” said Debbie Williamson-Smith at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

“The Last Supper” is on display at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus.
