Athletes Replace Chewing Tobacco

the grindsIDAHO FALLS, ID — Minor League Baseball players in Idaho are embracing an alternative to a nasty habit.

Chewing tobacco has been around seemingly since the game started. However, the health risks, like cancer, have some players looking for something else.

Enter “Grinds,” which is basically coffee grounds in a pouch.

“A better alternative, you know, it’s safe, obviously and it just give you energy with the coffee, so that’s definitely a huge improvement,” said Eric Scoglund, pitcher for the Idaho Falls Chukars.

Chewing tobacco is banned on the field at the minor league level.
