SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Springfield Police were called out to an attempted kidnapping Wednesday. Police say a 7-year-old girl was walking near the 3500 block of E Street when a man approached her and grabbed her arm. The girl screamed and the man let go and ran from the scene.
Witnesses say they heard the girl scream and saw the suspect run away. Police searched the area for the suspect, but did not find him. Anyone with information should contact the Springfield Police Department.
Officers say while incidents like this are not uncommon, they are advising parents to talk to their kids.
“Just remind parents to have a plan for their children if they do get talked to by a stranger or if somebody actually contacts them and even says that their parents sent them. Just remind them about those kind of things- who to talk to and who not to talk to,” Sgt.David Lewis, Springfield Police Department.
The suspect is described as a white male, mid 20s, average build, wearing green shirt, tan shorts, camouflage baseball cap and carrying a black duffel bag at the time.
