Attempted Murder Suspect Arraigned

EUGENE, Ore. — A suspect in an attempted murder in 2011 is back in Oregon to face charges.

Police say David Robert Friend, Jr. was returned to Oregon Thursday after escaping to California.

Police found and arrested him back in December. Investigators say Friend, along with his younger brother, broke into a Springfield man’s home and beat him with a pipe, then shot him in the shoulder. The victim survived.

Friend was arraigned Thursday and is being held on two counts of attempted murder, burglary and assault.

His younger brother is already serving six-and-a-half years in prison for the crime.
