August Car Sales Better Than Expected

(CNN) — U.S. automakers reported better-than-expected numbers.

General Motors is reporting a sales increase of 10.1 percent compared to a year ago. Ford’s sales are up 12.6 percent. Chrysler Group posted a 14.1 percent improvement over a year ago.

All three sales figures beat forecasts from sales trackers Edmunds and True Car.

Better access to financing and some signs of improvement in the labor market are likely factors in the stronger sales.
