BBQ Tradition Still Strong in Veneta

VENETA, Ore. — Fifty-seven years and still going strong; the Fern Ridge Beef BBQ wrapped up another year of food, fun and music.

The annual summer tradition continued to draw a crowd. Even with a down economy, organizers said they fed between 900-1,100 people.

The beef served was slow-cooked in a pit for 20 hours.

“It just goes to show the meat is good. The service is good. The friendship, the fun that people have. When you put it all together it just spells one word–love,” said Gino Galioto.

Proceeds from the BBQ benefited community outreach programs and services at St. Catherine of Siena.
