BCSO Collects 500 lbs of Medications

4-26 drug take backCORVALLIS, Ore. – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says over 500 pounds of expired and unwanted medications was collected Saturday.

Approximately 325 vehicles came through the drop site at the Benton County Fairgrounds with prescription pills and over-the-counter medications. The collected medications were turned over to the DEA for incineration.

“Keeping these medications away from kids or others who may misuse them is an important public safety service.” said Sheriff Scott Jackson, Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

Studies indicated a concern that prescription drugs were being intentional abused, particularly among teens. Additionally, disposing of medications by throwing them away or flushing them down the toilet can lead to contamination of drinking water
