CORVALLIS, Ore. – Dylan Davis’ one-out double scored Tyler Smith and Michael Conforto, sending the fourth-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 5-4 come-from-behind win over UTSA in the Beavers’ first game of the Corvallis Regional on Friday.

Smith opened the inning with a walk against UTSA (35-24 overall) reliever Matt Sims, and moved to second when Andy Peterson sacrifice bunted. Conforto was then hit by a 1-2 pitch from Davis, setting up Davis’ game-winning double that bounced all the way to the right center wall.

It served as the game-winner in walkoff fashion for Oregon State (46-10 overall), which didn’t hold its first lead until the sixth. But the Roadrunners scored solo runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take a 4-3 lead.

Kavin Keyes figured in the Beavers’ first two runs of the game, grounding into a double play in the fourth that netted OSU a run. He then flew out to left on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, the Beavers’ first of two runs in the inning. Smith also walked with the bases loaded to give the Beavers a temporary 3-2 lead.

Max Engelbrekt worked 1 2/3 innings of relief for the Beavers and improved to 5-1 on the year. Sims took the loss, dropping to 6-3. Sims allowed two hits and two runs in the loss.

Neither starter figured in the decision. Matt Boyd threw 114 pitches in 6 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and three runs. He walked four and struck out eight.

His counterpart, Nolan Trabanino, worked five innings, allowing seven hits and three runs – just one earned. He struck out one and walked one.

Oregon State now takes on UC Santa Barbara, which defeated Texas A&M, 6-4, in the first game Friday. The Beavers and Gauchos play at 5:05 p.m. PT with the game slated for ESPN3.com.
