EUGENE, Ore. — A spike in beef prices is a concern all over the nation right now.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, retail prices for fresh beef has been more than $5 per pound since January. A year ago, it was about $4.90.
Local meat markets and restaurants say they haven’t felt the impact just yet but they’re bracing for it. The co-owner of Cornucopia Restaurant in Eugene says he’s concerned about the long-term impact on his business.
“We have no intention of increasing our prices for at least a year. Even if we have to assume a little bit of a cost increase, we won’t just turn that over to the customer,” said Stark
He says there’s still no word from their supplier about potential price hikes.
