SPRINGFIELD, Ore - A Springfield woman is giving the gift of warmth this holiday.
This woman is sewing with spirit of the holidays and wrapping us up with the true meaning of the holidays.
Every color of the rainbow is flowing from the fleece blankets. KEZI 9 News followed Wendy Hubacek as she made her way into the First Family Center, in Eugene, on Christmas Eve carrying with her bundles of goodwill. Her mission is Blankets of Love.
“I really wanted to do something. I heard about families sleeping in their cars and it broke my heart when I would go to bed at night in a warm bed ” said Wendy Hubacek, founder of Blankets of Love.
Since November she sewed 72 of these blankets.
“My goal was 100 blankets and I thought that would cover all of our homeless children in our area and I found out it doesn’t even come close,” said Hubacek. But, for the little children her gift Is helping them cuddle up with Christmas.
“Oh and she made it with her hands.” added one little boy who received a blanket. “I think about it that she was nice to give them out and its good to have blankets because you have extras that will always keep you warm every night,” said Justus Abel who also received a blanket. “Every blanket has a hand made with love tag,” added Hubacek.
Each blanket comes with a different theme. “Mine has a choo choo on it.” said another little boy. Another boy told us “It has monsters on it and I love monsters.”
And, whether its monsters or hearts when these kids lay their heads down, once things for sure, they’ll be covered in love.
Papa’s Pizza is holding a fundraiser for Blankets of Love on January, 14th.
The non-profit will get 50 percent of the profits that day.
