It’s looking for donors, and it’s offering a little extra incentive to get people to donate blood.
The Lane Blood Center recently had a blood shortage and they’re anticipating another. In order to prevent that, they’re getting creative.
The Lane Blood Center is the sole provider of blood to Lane County hospitals.
Staff say summer is a tough time for them, with August being the worst month of the year.
The reason–many donors are on vacation, so blood inventory drops.
The center is just coming out of a blood shortage that happened in early July. At one point they were down 108 units of O positive.
At the end of August, they expect to have a shortage of O positive, O negative and A positive.
“I anticipate all three of those blood types to be in short supply, and we have a great chance here to prevent that and make sure our hospitals have plenty of blood on the shelf, so no surgeries have to wait,” said Marshall White, Marketing & Donor Recruitment Director.
The Lane Blood Center is offering a little incentive to get people to donate. Starting July 30 and going through September 15, the center will raffle off a pair of Duck football tickets to a home game. One winner will be drawn each week for seven straight weeks.
