EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Blood Center says Lane County is experiencing a severe blood shortage because of something that happened outside of Oregon.
Washington is one of 38 states hit by a telecommunications network outage that caused an emergency blood shortage.
Lane Blood Center responded to the Internet outage in the Seattle area by redirecting a large amount of blood inventory to that area.
“This is actually pretty unusual for us,” said Lane Blood Center Marketing Director Marshall White. “Although we do share resources from time to time with other blood centers in need, this was a larger distribution that we’re used to.”
Lane Blood Center says it has enough blood to meet immediate needs, but it encourages all eligible donors to donate.
