SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Quick thinking by a homeowner Wednesday night likely saved his home from catching fire. Springfield firefighters were called to the 400 block of Lochaven near 6 p.m. after the homeowner’s boat caught fire next to his house. Crews say the man was doing work on the boat’s fuel system under a canopy when he heard something that sounded like liquid igniting. His hair was singed as he jumped out of the boat and into his car to pull it away from the house.
Captain Rodney Stewart of Springfield Fire Department says the fire could have quickly spread from the canopy to the house itself. “He acted appropriately and luckily he could get it hooked up by himself quickly and get it pulled out,” says Stewart.
No one was injured in the fire.
