SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Willamalane Center for Sports and Recreation will open two new outdoor bocce ball courts Saturday, September 21.
The 12 feet by 90 feet courts will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. They are free to use for Willamalane Center members and $5 for adult nonmembers and $3 for youth and senior nonmembers. Bocce ball equipment will be provided.
Courts can be reserved in advance for special events and parties.
Willamalane will host a bocce ball open house on September 21 to celebrate the completion of the courts. A clinic to teach the sport will be from 4-5 p.m. and local experts will explain bocce rules, game strategy and throwing techniques.
The courts, which cost $20,000 to construct, were funded by bond measure dollars. Voters in November approved a $20 million bond measure to preserve land, develop parks and athletic fields and fund energy conservation projects.
