Just after 8:30 a.m., the Boston Police Department Tweeted this statement:
“Three additional suspects taken into custody in Marathon bombing case. Details to follow.”
Police say that the three people are students at University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Authorities believe the three students helped destroy evidence for suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, including fireworks and Tsarnaev’s laptop.
On April 20, FBI agents detained the two students, both from Kazakhstan, at an apartment in New Bedford, Massachusetts. After being interviewed, it was determined there wasn’t enough evidence to charge them with a crime.
According to a US official, two of the students were charged with obstruction of justice and making false statements. There was no word on the charges for the third student.
