ALBANY, Ore. — An 8-year-old boy died in a rollover crash on I-5 in Albany Sunday night.
Oregon State Police says around 6:50 p.m., the boy’s family was driving northbound on I-5 when for some reason their SUV drove into the median, rolled several times and stopped on its side in the southbound lanes.
The boy was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His 13-year-old brother was taken to an Albany hospital with serious injuries. The driver, the boy’s dad, 53-year-old Willevaldo Guzman-Cruz, of Keizer, his wife, 37-year-old Evangelica Guzman-Arango and two other sons were injured but not taken to the hospital.
Police say all of the survivors were wearing seat belts, and they’re still trying to determine if the boy who died was wearing a seat belt.
Officers are investigating into whether a tire malfunction may have been a factor in the crash.
