Boy Scouts Honor Guaranty RV Founder

EUGENE, Ore. — The Founder of Guaranty RV Super Centers, Herb Nill, has been awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award for his life work and shared talents with the community.

Nill earned his Eagle Scout award in 1942 and continued to follow the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law for the past 70 years. He was nominated by the Oregon Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America to receive the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, which is granted to Eagle Scouts who, after 25 years, have distinguished themselves in their life work.

Nill attended the University of Oregon and was elected president of the student body in 1950. After graduation, Nill served as a special agent with the Office of Special Investigations with the United States Air Force.

In 1956, Nill began selling cars at Silva Motors in Eugene and three years later opened National Car Sales in Eugene. In 1966, he purchased Guaranty Chevrolet in Junction City before opening Guaranty RV Super Centers.

The RV dealerships have been honored with numerous industry awards including the Top 50 Dealer award for four consecutive years, before being discontinued in 2011.

Nill also received the Dave Altman Award in 2009, a lifetime achievement honoring an individual from a Top 50 Dealer.

Previous recipients of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award include President Gerald R. Ford, Astronaut Neil Armstrong and University of Oregon Men’s Basketball Coach Dana Altman.
