SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Springfield police said a man is in the hospital after he was stabbed by his own brother. The stabbing took place at an apartment complex on the 4800 block of Aster Street.
Officers were called to the scene around 7:45 p.m. Saturday night to find that a fight between brothers over finances took a vicious turn. Police said the fight started inside where 25-year-old Dominic Ramirez chased his mother and brother out of their apartment with a knife. The brother, Daniel Ramirez, suffered several stab wounds to his lower right leg and thigh.
A few neighbors said this is the first time anything like this has ever happened in the area and they were shocked by the news. Witnesses said it was a pretty gruesome dispute.
“It’s all cleaned up now, but there was blood all over my front door, all over their front door, all over their kitchen, and my car had bloody hand prints on it. It was pretty messed up,” said witness Jordan Brown.
Daniel Ramirez was treated at RiverBend Hospital.
Dominic Ramirez was booked into Lane County Jail on an assault charge. Witnesses said they believe Dominic suffers from bi-polar disorder and may end up being institutionalized.
Neighbors said they hope that this incident will result in more thorough background checks for potential residents.
