EUGENE, Ore.– Eugene firefighters put out flames at Pennington Crossarm Company on W 1st Avenue in Eugene. Firefighters arrived on scene at around 11:30am and saw smoke coming from the kiln building. They’re calling the fire suspicious because the company is closed.
“It’s the fourth of July and everything is shut down… It is a little bit suspicious in the area. We want to make sure it wasn’t fireworks or anything,” said Battalion Chief Lance Lighty of the Eugene Fire Department.
Lighty also adds that the sprinkler system saved the building from being destroyed. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but a security guard for the compound tells KEZI 9 News that he saw three teenagers playing with fireworks near the scene of the fire.
No one was hurt.
