SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Local Springfield businesses are teaming up to raise money for the Guzman Family. The family lost their 8-year-old son, Yonic, in a car crash in Albany in early January.
Both stores and restaurants in the Paramount Center strip mall are raffling off a variety of prizes including gift certificates, flowers, and pedicures. The Guzman family owns a store in the Paramount Center. The store has been closed since the crash.
Busy Bee Cafe manager, Carla Kolessor, organized the fundraiser. She said originally planned on this being a one day event but decided to extend it through Sunday, due to an overwhelming response from neighboring businesses. “We’re pretty much a community within the paramount center here, and we all try to take care of each other, so that’s what spurred it on. We’re familiar with the kids, family, and it hits close to home,” said Kolessor.
Tickets for the fundraiser are available at all of the businesses in the Paramount Center. For $5 you can get six tickets.
