EUGENE, Ore. — An institution of fine dining in closed its doors Sunday. Cafe Zenon on Broadway Avenue and Pearl Street shut its doors after 30 years of serving downtown Eugene.
Managers say all week the place was packed with people trying to get their last meals at the cafe. The restaurant simply wasn’t making ends meet.
“If you spend a million dollars a year, you’ve got to make more than a million dollars a year with what you’re doing. So eventually the arithmetic worked out to the point where the decision had to be made,” said assistant manager Christopher Pirog.
The owner plans to move his other restaurant, Casablanca, a Middle Eastern eatery, to the cafe’s location.
