DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — Sheriff’s deputies responded to a drowning in the Umpqua River Sunday afternoon.
Deputies say around 4 p.m. they were called to the Yellow Creek boat ramp. Witnesses say they saw a man swimming in the river when he went under and never resurfaced.
The Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Fire District 2 Swiftwater Rescue and the Kellogg Fire Department responded. Divers located the man 50 feet downstream from the boat ramp, submerged in an eddy pool.
The man was identified as a 34-year-old man from Van Nuys. His name has not yet been released.
