Candlelight Vigil Aims to End Violence

EUGENE, Ore. — A group of demonstrators rallied Monday night to raise awareness about gender-based violence.

The Zonta Club of Eugene-Springfield held a candlelight vigil near the Hult Center in downtown Eugene. They held signs as part of their message.

According to the World Health Organization, 35 percent of women will be the victim of gender-based violence.

“I think we’re just trying to get it come out of being private and hidden,” said Susan Dunn, Zonta Club VP. “Let people know that they shouldn’t be silent on this issue and they should speak up.”

This rally is one of hundreds scheduled for Monday night. There are nearly 1,200 clubs like this one around the world.
