EUGENE, Ore. — Capstone’s 13th and Olive student housing project is being investigated by the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries. Representatives from the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters say they got several complaints from workers about some of the site’s poor working conditions. As a result, they reached out to the bureau, which has since requested that X-Wall Incorporated, a subcontractor, provide them with information regarding payment and record keeping policies. The bureau says the investigation is just getting started.
Administrator of Wage and Hour Division Gerhard Taeubel said, “That depends entirely upon how many employees are involved and the breadth of the records that we have to look at and whether we need to interview workers. There are a number of factors that go into the length of an investigation.”
The subcontractor has until Nov. 13 to submit the requested information.
