OMAHA, Neb. – Oregon State improved to 3-0 this postseason, and 15-5 all-time under Pat Casey, in elimination games in an 11-4 College World Series win over Louisville Monday afternoon at TD Ameritrade Park, giving the Beavers a school-record 51st win of the season.

Oregon State players started the hashtag #RefuseToLose during regional competition, and they used that mantra in back-to-back wins over Kansas State to advance to Omaha and again on Monday against the Cardinals to remain alive at the College World Series.

The Beavers will play the loser of Mississippi State-Indiana at 7 p.m. CT (5 p.m. PT) on Wednesday in another elimination game that will be televised on ESPN2.

Lefty Ben Wetzler allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings and moved to 10-1 to join Andrew Moore (14-1) and Matt Boyd (10-4) with double-digits victories, the first time Oregon State has had three 10-game winners in a season since 2007.

Scott Schultz pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and a run, to close out the game.

Michael Conforto continued his torrid pace at the plate in Omaha by going 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the seventh inning and has now reached base in eight of his 10 plate appearances at the College World Series.

Andy Peterson went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Tyler Smith and Max Gordon each collected two hits with Gordon contributing two RBIs and two runs.

Gordon was hit by a pitch to open the third inning and scored from first when Smith doubled down the left field line. Peterson reached on a bunt single and Conforto drew a walk to load the bases before Louisville second baseman Zach Lucas threw the ball away trying to start a double play, which allowed two runs to score and give the Beavers a 3-0 lead.

Oregon State (51-12) loaded the bases again in the fourth inning and scored two runs when Dylan Davis beat out a squibber down the third base line that plated Gordon and Peterson. After Danny Hayes walked, the Beavers added two runs when shortstop Sutton Whiting threw the ball over first baseman Zak Wasserman’s head.

Ryan Barnes was hit by a pitch, Jake Rodriguez walked to score a run and Gordon knocked in a pair with a single through the left side that gave Oregon State a comfortable 10-0 lead. It was the 18th time the Beavers have batted around in an inning this season.

The seven runs in the inning are the most by a team since the College World Series moved to TD Ameritrade Park from Rosenblatt Stadium in 2011.

Louisville (51-14) got on the board in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Lucas, but Wetzler induced a double play to end the rally. He gave up three singles in the sixth but got out of the inning without a run being scored with by the help of a double play and flyout.

The Cardinals added three runs in the seventh inning on a hit by pitch and walk that chased Wetzler before Scott Schultz allowed a two-run double to Adam Engel and an RBI single by Ty Young.

Courtesy: Oregon State Sports Infomation

OMAHA, Neb. – Danny Hayes had a potential game-winning home run caught at the warning track and Michael Conforto became the first Oregon State player to get four hits at the NCAA College World Series, but the Beavers dropped the opening game to Mississippi State, 5-4, Saturday afternoon at TD Ameritrade Park.

Tyler Smith singled to open the ninth inning and advanced to second when Conforto walked with one out. Hayes hit a 2-2 curveball that looked to be gone, but fell just a few feet short of the fence and into right fielder Hunter Renfroe’s glove for the final out.

After dropping the first game of the College World Series to Miami in 2006, the Beavers battled back to win their first of back-to-back national championships. They will have to do the same to claim their third national title in eight years when they face the loser of Indiana-Louisville at 2 p.m. CT (noon PT) on Monday.

Mississippi State got the game-winning runs on a two-out double by Wes Rea that knocked in Alex Detz and Renfroe who reached on back-to-back singles.

Matt Boyd, who was making his second consecutive relief appearance, was saddled with the loss when a line drive ricocheted off his back on a liner by Renfroe before Rea’s double.

Conforto showed everyone he is one of the nation’s best players by going 4-for-4 from the plate with two doubles, an RBI and run, and made several spectacular plays in left field, including throwing out Sam Frost at the plate when he attempted to score on a flyout in the second inning.

Freshman All-American Andrew Moore allowed six hits and three runs in 7 1/3 innings but was denied his school-record 15th win of the season when the Bulldogs rallied in the eighth inning.

Oregon State (50-12) took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Michael Conforto knocked in Tyler Smith, who reached on a throwing error, with a double and scored on an RBI single by Danny Hayes.

The Bulldogs (49-18) answered with three runs in the top of the second with the help of a double, two singles, a walk and a hit by pitch. The inning could have been worse for the Beavers but Conforto gunned down Sam Frost at the plate when he attempted to score on a flyout.

The Beavers tied the game at 3 in the fourth when Kavin Keyes hit a ball down the line that got by the left fielder for a triple that scored Hayes, who led off the inning with a walk.

Oregon State took a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning when Andy Peterson singled, moved to third on a double by Conforto and scored on a groundout by Dylan Davis.

The game was played in front of 24,473, the eighth-largest crowd in TD Ameritrade Park history.

Oregon State had won seven straight games at the College World Series between 2006 and 2007 at Rosenblatt Stadium to claim back-to-back national championships. Saturday was the first time the Beavers played at TD Ameritrade Park, which became the new home of college baseball’s biggest stage in 2011.

CORVALLIS, Ore.– The Beavers are headed back to Omaha.

Danny Hayes hit a two-run home run in the second inning and Ben Wetzler limited Kansas State to three runs over 7 2/3 innings as the Beavers won the Corvallis Super Regional with a 4-3 victory Monday night at Goss Stadium.

The win sends Oregon State to its fifth-ever visit to the College World Series in Omaha, and the fourth trip in the last nine years – all under head coach Pat Casey. The Beavers (50-11 overall) will open the World Series Saturday at 12 p.m. PT (2 p.m. in Omaha) against Mississippi State from the Southeastern Conference.

“I’m very proud of what these men have accomplished,” Casey said. “They were down early in the series but battled and now have a chance to play for their goal. We are very ready to head to Omaha and look forward to seeing a great amount of Beaver fans there to cheer us on.”

Hayes drove in Davis with a 2-2 home run to center in the second off Kansas State (45-19) starter Jake Matthys. It was Hayes’ sixth home run of the season and pushed the Beavers to an early lead for the third consecutive game.

Wetzler, meanwhile, used that early lead to his advantage, holding the Wildcats to three runs and nine hits in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked five in the win.

Wetzler improved to 9-1 this season.

Wetzler left with the game’s tying run on second. Matt Boyd came on in relief and allowed a single by RJ Santigate but Blake DeBord, who was at second, tried the score and was gunned down at the plate on a throw by Michael Conforto and a tag by Jake Rodriguez, preserving the lead.

Boyd picked up the save, his first of the season and eighth of his career.

Oregon State added to the lead in the fourth when Kavin Keyes doubled off the right center wall, and tacked on another run in the fifth when Andy Peterson reached on an error by shortstop Austin Fisher.

Matthys allowed three hits and four runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. He started his first game of the season and threw a career-high 75 pitches. He took the loss and dropped to 9-2 this season.

Saturday’s College World Series opener is slated to air live on ESPN2 and the game can also be found online on ESPN3.com. The Beaver Sports Radio Network will also carry the game with the following stations airing it: KEJO 1240-AM in Corvallis/Albany, FOX Sports Radio Portland (620-AM), KICE 940-AM (Bend), KSKR 1490-AM in Roseburg, KAKT 104.7-FM (Grants Pass, Medford), KLAD 960-AM (Klamath Falls), KBZY 1490-AM (Salem) and KKNX 840-AM (Eugene).

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Kavin Keyes and Tyler Smith both went 4-for-5 and Michael Conforto and Dylan Davis hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to send the Oregon State baseball team to a 12-4 win over Kansas State Sunday at Goss Stadium.

The win by the Beavers forces a game three in the Corvallis Super Regional. That game has been pushed to a 7:05 p.m. PT start and will air on either ESPNU or ESPN2. Follow Twitter.com/Beaver_Baseball for that information on Monday.

Andrew Moore, who tied the Oregon State (49-11 overall) single-season record with his 14th win Sunday, was given a five-run lead before even throwing a pitch. He ended the game by throwing 124 pitches over eight innings, allowing four runs and six hits. He struck out a career-best nine.

Keyes and Smith, meanwhile, both tied a career-best with four hits to help pace the Beavers, who finished the game with 21. Six of the other nine Oregon State starters had two in the win.

Oregon State jumped out early, pounding five runs in the first, all with two outs. Conforto and Davis hit back-to-back home runs and Jake Rodriguez capped off the inning with a two-run single.

Oregon State extended its lead to 7-0 in the second when Davis drove in two on a single up the middle.

After a Jared King home run put Kansas State (45-18) on the board in the second, OSU answered with two more in the third. Max Gordon drove in the first run of the inning on a squeeze and Smith made it 9-1 on a double to left.

Smith and Davis both had three RBI to lead the Beavers. Keyes scored four runs to lead the Beavers in that category.

The Beavers did their early damage against Kansas State starter Blake McFadden, who got only two outs in the first and exited after allowing four hits and four runs. He took the loss and is now 6-3 on the year.

The teams finish the Super Regional Monday at 7:05 p.m. PT. The game will air live on ESPN2 and with an online stream available by visiting ESPN3.com.

CORVALLIS, Ore.– Kansas State scored five runs in the last two innings in a 6-2 win over the Oregon State baseball team to open the Corvallis Super Regional Saturday at Goss Stadium.

Michael Conforto hit a two-run home run in the fourth to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead but the Wildcats scored the game’s last six runs for the win. Tanner Witt tied the game on a single up the middle in the ninth on an 0-1 pitch with two outs.
