SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A boy was pulled from the wave pool at Splash! at Lively Park and rushed to the hospital Friday afternoon.
Parents describe it as a scary situation as lifeguards saw the boy having trouble in the water.
Many of the parents KEZI 9 News encountered were in tears wondering if the boy was okay.
Parents say they saw the lifeguard pull the boy out and start CPR. Paramedics arrived and continued CPR.
Willamalane says the boy, described as being 12 years old, was there with a nurse who takes care of him and she helped give him CPR. That nurse told Willamalane he has a history of cardiac problems and seizures.
The boy is being flown to the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.
“Really hard to see. I heard stories before of things happened, but you don’t ever think it’s going to happen while you’re there, especially someone who looks to be your son’s age and looks just like him,” said witness Kadi Metzger.
Willamalane didn’t shut down the pool after this happened. Willamalane says it’s not in its policy to shut down the pool when something like this happens.
The boy’s condition has not yet been released.
We will update this story as more information becomes available.
