City Council Extends Tax Exemption

EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene City Council has decided to extend the suspension on the controversial tax exemption for housing developers.

The Multi-Unit Property Tax Exemption, or MUPTE, is now suspended until the end of August.

The original agreement was for the end of June, as the council worked to evaluate and potentially modify the program.

MUPTE provides tax incentives for housing projects in certain parts of downtown, like the Capstone project that’s currently under construction in downtown Eugene.
