City Councilors Debate Dispensaries

medical marijuanaSPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The future of medicinal marijuana dispensaries was a hot topic in Springfield Monday night.

The city council debated the options during a council work session.

Councilors are considering a one-year moratorium that would keep them from opening up in city limits. But before they make any decisions, they want to hear from the public, including from those who would run the clinics.

“I think that just to re-express the mayor’s point of view, that the medicines been here, the growers have been here, and the patients have been here. The only difference is that we’re taking it out of the parking lots and into actual businesses that are controlled and regulated by the city,” said Jayson Thomas, Cannabis, LLC.

The city will hold a public forum on the topic.

Councilors have to make a decision on whether to enact a moratorium by May 1.
