No Decision Made to Change Bag Ban Fee

EUGENE, Ore. — Just weeks after its implementation, the city revisited the plastic bag ban.

Councilors met Monday night to open discussions about suspending the required 5-cent charge for paper bags.

Councilors heard public comment about the changes. Most seemed to be in favor of keeping the ordinance as is.

The city did not take any action Monday night, but will continue the plastic bag ban discussion at a later date.

Councilors are considering waiving the 5-cent fee for paper bags for low income families, including those on food stamps.

I’ve no problem with the way things are right now.

A nickle isn’t a hardship and the bag can be used again.
