City Preparing for Game Day Traffic

EUGENE, Ore. — Only three more days til the Oregon Ducks football season officially kicks into gear.

Thousands of people are expected to flood the area around Autzen on game days.

Local police sent out the usual reminders of increased traffic, especially on weekends such as this when U of O and Oregon State are both hosting games.

ODOT had no other potential hiccups to report other than the closing of the Pioneer Parkway exit ramp from eastbound Highway 126 for 90 minutes after the game, but MLK, Jr. Boulevard is still peppered with cones and signs from an ongoing construction project.

“There will certainly be a lot of congestion near Autzen Stadium on game day, but not because of the construction. It’ll be because of 60,000 people coming to a football game,” said Eric Jones, Public Works Affairs Manager.

The public works department says most of the paving is done and there won’t be any work on game day.

It appears fans driving to Autzen shouldn’t have any more trouble than normal getting around on a game day.

If you plan to bike over, the West Bank Bike Path in west Eugene is closed for repairs.
