EUGENE, Ore. — Thousands of people headed to the Whiteaker for the annual community dinner Thursday afternoon. For many people this is the only place they can go for a hot holiday meal. Aside from the food, volunteers handed out sleeping bags, blankets, and warm clothes.
They even had nurses on scene giving out flu vaccines. Volunteers said this dinner really brings together the entire community. “The biggest thing besides the items is smiles and just welcoming them and really making it a positive experience for them to be here,” said Beverly Farfan.
Organizers said due to silverware and plate donations, there’s only about 10% waste at this event.
