Commute Challenge Holds Red Carpet Event

EUGENE, Ore. — The Business Commute Challenge officially starts this weekend. It’s a friendly community competition to reduce our carbon footprint.

So to get in the spirit, organizers held their first ever red carpet event, which drew a steady crowd at the Campbell Center for a morning breakfast treat on Tuesday. Dozens of commuters walked the carpet while the paparazzi took pictures. Those on bikes also enjoyed a free tune-up.

This was just one of two new events this year to attract new participants to the Business Commute Challenge.

“It was fun. We had a lot of people who wore different clothes just to walk the red carpet and be shot by the paparazzi,” said Marcia Maffel, Business Commute Challenge Coordinator.

Nearly 1,300 participants are signed up so far, and it’s not too late to get involved. Click here to sign up.
