EUGENE, Ore. — A $1.7 million road construction project is now under way at the corner of Broadway and Lincoln Street in downtown Eugene.
Project managers say while the construction may cause some detours for traffic during the next few months, the result is a much safer city and an investment in downtown revitalization.
The project spans sections of Olive Street, 10th Avenue and Broadway. A bond approved in 2008 to help repair city roads is funding this project. Residents told KEZI 9 News the construction can be a hassle, but they’re pleased it’s getting done.
“I’m very excited that they’re fixing the roads because they really need it. This one is a very, very busy street. Everybody rides bikes, skateboards, drives, and it will be a much better ride for everybody,” said Rhonda Parks, who is a nanny at a home near the construction.
Parks says it’s been difficult to roll the stroller with her baby in it across sidewalks and roads that are uneven.
