Construction on I-5 This Week

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Drivers should prepare for some company on Interstate 5 this week because several construction projects will be under way.

ODOT crews will be sealing asphalt along an 18-mile section between mileposts 234 and 216 from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Monday. Then, starting on Tuesday, the Franklin Boulevard exit on the northbound side of the interstate will close from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The southbound on-ramp will close on Thursday during the same hours so that crews can replace the bridge over the Willamette River between Eugene and Springfield.

Crews have also been rebuilding the I-5-Beltline interchange to meet safety standards. The speed limit there has been reduced to 35 miles per hour. As for the freeway, a speed reduction of 50 miles per hour is now in effect. Traffic fines double in construction zones.
