POLK COUNTY, Ore. -- Oregon State Police said a trooper helped an expecting couple get to hospital, with only minutes to spare.
It happened Saturday night when Trooper Simpson was on a routine traffic stop on Highway 22 in Polk County.
Lucas Slaven, who's a Firefighter/Paramedic at McMinnville Fire Department, was driving his wife Sarah, a Registered Nurse at Salem Health, to the hospital, when he didn’t think he was going to make it.
They said that's when Slaven saw the red and blues of Trooper Simpson on the side of the road. They said Slaven pulled over, and asked him for help.
Trooper Simpson escorted the Slaven’s in their car to Salem Health, where the delivery team was standing by.
Sophie Johanna Slaven was born just 5 minutes later.
Trooper Simpson is a father himself, and brought the new family back a card, some chocolates and a mini mouse for Sophie.
